Teacher Professional Development & School Organisational Development

All work relating to teachers’ professional development and school organisational development is undertaken by the Schools Development Unit (SDU) and the School of Education.

1. Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE EMLD)

Educators and managers from several Khayelitsha schools (both primary and secondary) are enrolled on the various ACE programmes that are presented by the SDU and School of Education. These programmes are two-year, part-time, university-certified courses that have attracted significant amounts of bursary funding from the Western Cape Education Department (WCED). Also, the School of Education runs the Education Management and Leadership (ELMD) ACE. This year, 241 school managers are enrolled for this.

2. Short courses
The SDU offers a small but growing number of university-certified short courses that are tailored to meet teachers’ professional development needs.

Teachers from Khayelitsha secondary schools have participated in several of the SDU's short courses over the past year.
